Purpose

University Exam - Ceramic Design

The project is centered on the Design and prototypation of a set of ceramic artifacts.

In the brief, great importance was given to the unique gesture related to the use of an object. For this reason the design approach was strongly based on gestures and rituality.

The heart of 5hot's concept is based on conviviality and consumption rituals. It is a search for the interactin between the gestures of use and the use itsef.

Extremely interesting for the project is the attention paid to social relationships and interactions that arise in the context and, above all, in the act of drinking.
The concept and, consequently, the formal research are entirely based on the enjoyment and modes of interaction in these contexts, which develop around the playfulness and hilarity of shared moments.

As previously mentioned, the use of shots is to be defined as communal. This is because the very act of enjoying the dish implies group participation and, at the same time, a distortion of the original form-s state of tranquillity. In this sense, the funcioning is closely linked to the use of each glass in its singularity> each of the glasses is stable when accompanied by at least one other element, but falls and consequently spills its contents if it remains alone and therefore undrunk.

The curved base of the glasses makes them tip over if they don’t have support from the others.
This unique feature forces the user to consume in company.
A shape that reflects togetherness and the need for the user to interface with collective participation.

Since the brief aimed to reach a semi-industrial production process, several prototypes in gres and porcelain have been made. The creation of the prototype started with digital modeling and 3D development of the shape on Grasshopper, based on the Voronoi diagram.
Once the five final solids had been obtained, the next step was to create the plaster mold. Once filed and cleaned, the mold in question was closed so that the slip could be poured into it.
